The ETA-DWDM/C-Monitor basically contains an IR-spectrometer. A transmitting grating suitable for the C-band (L-band optionally) and a thermostatically controlled 512 pixel InGaAs photodiode line array form the optical core. A large dynamical range and the wavelength resolution down to 0.2 nm makes the unit applicable in networks with 50 GHz channel spacing.
It comes in a compact plug-in unit for 19?housings. The optical input is designed for FC or ST fiber connectors. The unit is accessible via a RS232 interface. Software driver for user application and a complex evaluation tool (requires Windows 9x to XP) allows remote verifying of the amplitude, the wavelength, and the optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR) of each channel in a dense wavelength division multiplexed (DWDM) system. By recording this information over an extended period of time, degradations in optical networks become evident.
